How to use the salary calculator

Enter a pay amount and choose the unit it represents, from per hour to per year. The calculator converts it into every other unit at once, so you can read your hourly, weekly, monthly, and annual pay side by side.

Adjust the work pattern to match your job. The defaults assume 40 hours a week, 5 days a week, and 52 weeks a year, but you can change any of these so the hourly and daily figures reflect your real schedule.

Gross pay, not take-home pay

Every figure here is gross pay, the amount before any deductions. Your take-home pay is lower, because income tax, payroll tax, retirement contributions, and health premiums come out of each paycheck first.

This tool does not estimate those deductions, because they depend on where you live, your filing status, and your benefits. Treat the results as a starting point and check a pay stub for your actual net pay.

How hourly and annual pay convert

To turn hourly pay into a yearly figure, multiply by the hours you work each week and then by the weeks you work each year. At $24.04 an hour, 40 hours a week, and 52 weeks, that is about $50,000 a year.

Going the other way, divide the annual figure by the same total hours. A $50,000 salary across 2,080 work hours comes to roughly $24.04 an hour. The calculator normalizes whatever you enter to a yearly amount, then divides it back into each unit.

Standard work assumptions

The common full-time baseline is 40 hours over 5 days a week for 52 weeks a year, which gives 2,080 paid hours. Many salaried roles use this to set an equivalent hourly rate.

Real schedules vary. Part-time work, unpaid leave, or extra weeks off change the totals, so lower the weeks per year if you take unpaid time off, or adjust the hours for a non-standard week. The results update to match.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?
Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work each week, then by the weeks you work each year. At $24.04 an hour, 40 hours a week, and 52 weeks, that is about $50,000 a year.
Does this calculator include taxes?
No. Every figure is gross pay, before income tax, payroll tax, and other deductions. Your take-home pay is lower and depends on your location, filing status, and benefits, so check a pay stub for net pay.
What is the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly pay?
Biweekly means every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly means twice a month, which is 24 paychecks. This calculator uses the biweekly figure, dividing the annual amount into 26 periods.
How many work hours are in a year?
With the standard 40 hours a week over 52 weeks, a full-time year has 2,080 paid hours. If you take unpaid weeks off, lower the weeks per year so the hourly figure reflects fewer paid hours.
Can I use this for part-time pay?
Yes. Lower the hours per week or days per week to match part-time work, and the hourly, weekly, and annual figures adjust accordingly. The unit dropdown lets you start from whichever pay figure you know.
