Pace Calculator

Find your running pace per km and per mile, plus speed, from a distance and time.

Time

Enter a distance and a time to see your pace and speed.

How to use the pace calculator

Enter the distance you ran, pick the unit, then type your finish time in hours, minutes, and seconds. Your pace appears in minutes per kilometer and per mile, with speed alongside in km/h and mph.

You can fill in just minutes and seconds for shorter runs. Leave hours blank and it counts as zero, so a 25-minute 5K is two quick fields.

How pace is calculated

Pace is time divided by distance. Run 5 km in 25 minutes and that is 1,500 seconds over 5 km, which works out to 300 seconds, or 5:00, per kilometer.

Speed flips the same numbers around: distance over time. The same run is 5 km in a quarter hour, so 12 km/h. The calculator handles both views at once and converts between metric and imperial for you.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate my running pace?
Divide your time by your distance. A 5 km run in 25 minutes is 1,500 seconds over 5 km, which is 300 seconds, or 5:00, per kilometer. This tool does it instantly.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace is time per distance, like 5:00 per km. Speed is distance per time, like 12 km/h. They describe the same run from two angles, and the calculator shows both.
How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?
A mile is about 1.609 km, so your per-mile pace is longer than your per-km pace. A 5:00 per km pace is roughly 8:03 per mile. The calculator shows both at once.
Can I use this for walking or cycling?
Yes. The math is the same for any steady effort. Enter your distance and time and you get pace and speed, whether you are walking, running, or riding.
